President Boakai Appoints New Officials to Lead the Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia

The President of the Republic of Liberia, H. E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has appointed Mr. Mohammed A. Nasser as Officer-In-Charge and Mr. Amos Y. Boakai as Deputy Director General of the Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia, marking a significant step in the country’s efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
The Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia is tasked with collecting, analyzing, and disseminating financial intelligence related to money laundering, terrorist financing, and other predicate offenses. The FIA plays a crucial role in safeguarding Liberia’s financial system and economy.
Mr. Nasser, appointed on April 2, 2024, is a seasoned professional with more than 15 years of experience. He previously served as a consultant at LACE as the Deputy Project Coordinator of the Recovery of Economic Activity for Liberia Informal Sector Employment (REALISE) Project. Mr. Nasser also served with the Ministry of Public Works as Director of Internal Audit from 2009 to 2012 and moved over to the Internal Audit Secretariat (IAS) in 2012. He has a Master of Arts in International Relations (MA) earned in 2017 and a Master of Business Arts (MBA) in Finance earned in 2009. Throughout his career, Mr. Nasser has worked with public, private, and civil society organizations, as well as donor-funded projects, including those supported by the World Bank. He has held key positions such as the Technical Team Manager for the Youth Opportunities Project and President of the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), focusing on institutional capacity building and activism across Liberia.
On the other hand, Mr. Amos Yollah Boakai, appointed on March 5, 2024, is a highly qualified professional with a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) Degree in Economics from the African Methodist Episcopal Zion University and a Master of Management in Business Administration from the Central China Normal University, Wuhan, China. He has a diverse background, having worked in both the public and private sectors. Mr. Boakai began his professional life in government as a Special Attendant in the office of the Vice President of Liberia from 2008 to 2017. While studying abroad, he was actively engaged in extracurricular activities and served as the Vice President of the University’s International Students Volunteer Group. Upon earning his master’s, he returned to Liberia and worked on infrastructure projects before serving as a Finance Officer in the Office of the Former Vice President.
The appointments of Messrs. Nasser & Boakai signal Liberia’s commitment to combating financial crimes and ensuring the integrity of its financial systems. Their wealth of experience and expertise will be invaluable in advancing the work of the Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia.
