FIA, LDEA Renew Strategic Partnership to Combat Drug Trafficking and Money Laundering

To enhance inter-agency collaboration in the fight against financial crime and drug trafficking, the Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia (FIA) and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) have formally renewed their strategic partnership.

The renewal was agreed upon and formalized during a meeting held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the FIA’s Headquarters in Monrovia. Primary objective of the meeting was to reactivate and streamline interagency cooperation.
Officials from both agencies brainstormed on mechanisms to facilitate a seamless exchange of critical data and joint operational efforts.
The FIA Officer-In-Charge, Hon. Mohammed Ali Nasser, officially welcomed the new LDEA leadership.
He emphasized a key strategic objective: charging suspected drug traffickers with money laundering. OIC Nasser stated that since the core purpose of the illicit drug trade is to generate profits, confiscating illicit funds through money laundering charges is a crucial deterrent against the sale and importation of drugs.

The newly appointed LDEA Officer-In-Charge, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Fitzgerald Biago, expressed commitment to closely collaborate with the FIA.

He pledged to work towards minimizing and entirely preventing the trafficking of illicit drugs and substances across Montserrado County and all other parts of Liberia. OIC Biago underscored that effective community awareness campaigns and the robust sharing of critical intelligence are indispensable to winning the national campaign against illicit drugs, which extremely affects Liberia’s youth.

Meanwhile, the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) is Liberia’s central national agency responsible for receiving, analysing, and disseminating financial intelligence to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) is the national law enforcement agency mandated to eradicate the trafficking, distribution, and abuse of illicit drugs and substances within Liberia.
