OIC Nasser Gives FIA’s Activities More Visibility

In continuation of the Agency’s public information campaign via the radio and social media platforms, Hon. Mohammed Ali Nasser, Officer-In-Charge of the Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia (FIA) recently appeared on the state broadcaster, ELBC/LNTV, Ok FM, and Voice of Liberia to talk directly with the public and concerned stakeholders in helping to give FIA’s activities more visibility.

His appearance highlighted gains made by the Agency in finding mitigating measures regarding deficiencies identified by GIABA in Liberia’s second round Mutual Evaluation Report (MER2).

OIC Nasser elaborated on the upcoming Inter-Governmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) Plenary, which is scheduled to be held in Monrovia, Liberia from November 17-23, 2025. This planned GIABA Technical Meeting and Plenary will bring together experts from across West Africa to collaborate on the fight against financial crime, showcasing Liberia’s active role in this important regional effort.

He detailed actionable steps the FIA has taken to address deficiencies in the Real Estate Sector, Mining, gaming, banking, among other critical sectors in protecting Liberia’s financial system from waste and abuse.

“The enforcement actions taken by the FIA are tailored to prevent these sectors from being used to hide or launder illegal money, which protects Liberia’s financial system from waste and abuse,” he stressed.

Nasser added that the goal of these appearances is to be more transparent about the FIA’s legal responsibilities to protect the country’s economy from financial crimes like money laundering.
